COVID-19 Update

Dear PRS family,

Welcome back from Spring Break, even though we are not physically back in the classroom. Currently all preK-12 schools in Alabama are closed until April 6th. Closed means we cannot provide instruction that is for credit. Following Governor Kay Ivey’s State of Emergency order to close schools for an extended period, our leadership team began preparing for a number of contingencies.

Our educators have been preparing and planning for this possibility for over two weeks.  We will be offering enrichment learning activities as allowed by the Alabama State Department of Education so that learning does not stop.  The learning gap caused by this worldwide health emergency is small for Pike Road Schools. We are uniquely poised to help our learners through electronic, on-line medium and can engage them in learning the standards appropriate to their grade level.

You will be hearing from your respective schools right away to verify that you have internet access at home. We will help facilitate temporary internet access to anyone who doesn't have access during the school facility shutdown period.

Our plans are in place to move forward with e-learning for credit should the state allow it during the shutdown. We will send you more information about those plans as soon as we have the approval from the Alabama State Department of Education.

To assist learners and lead learners while working from home our Information Technology (IT) department will be providing support services via help desk tickets. Should you have needs, please contact and put in a request for help. They will get back to you with help in a timely fashion. The IT department will be working on help issues Monday- Fridays from 10 am until 2 pm.  The remainder of their time will be spent troubleshooting issues and supporting our lead learners as they transition their class to an online format.

The Pike Road School System is committed to keeping our community safe, getting our seniors graduated, and helping all of our students to continue to learn and progress so that their learning is not interrupted by this world health crisis.

I pray that you all are healthy and handling the changes this crisis has brought about. Thank you in advance for working with us as we get all of this going and work the kinks out. If you need my assistance, please call me on my cell at 334-714-1679.

Dr. Chuck Ledbetter
Superintendent, Pike Road Schools
